What are the quarantine requirements of the federal government?

  1. Get your pre-entry COVID-19 PCR test withi 72 hours of your departure.
  2. Reserve your 3-night hotel stopover.
  3. Register in advance for your COVID-19 test taken upon arrival.
  4. Submit your travel and quarantine plans on ArriveCan app.
  5. Stay in your hotel stopover until you receive a negative test result.
  6. Leave the hotel and complete the remainder of your 14-night quarantine as prescribed by the province of your destination.
  7. Remain in quarantine until you receive a negative result from your COVID-19 federal take home/self-administered test kit.

What are the quarantine requirements of the Nova Scotia government?

The following are the quarantine requirements for international students studying in Nova Scotia.

  1. Book your hotel stay as prescribed in the MSVU Quarantine Plan.
  2. Book your private taxi from the Halifax airport to the hotel.
  3. Complete the NS Safe Check-in Form online.
  4. Complete the daily check-in form that was emailed to you by the Nova Scotia government. This daily email will probably be in your junk/spam folder.
  5. Complete the 11-night quarantine from the time you entered Canada.
    Ex: if you stayed in your hotel stopover for 3-nights, you only have to complete 11-nights in the hotel.
    NOTE: even after completing the 14-day quarantine requirement, you must remain in quarantine until you receive a negative result from your COVID-19 federal take home/self-administered test kit.

What happens if my COVID-19 test from arrival is positive?

If you’ve received a positive test, stay in your room. A Public Health Agency of Canada official will call you with instructions.

You’ll be required to isolate for 14 days from when the sample was collected. This will be in either a federal designated quarantine facility or other suitable location.

Are minors exempted from the quarantine requirements?

If you are a minor (under 18 years of age), you are exempted from the federal quarantine requirements.

However, you are still required to quarantine as prescribed by the province of Nova Scotia. Please proceed to compelting the MSVU Quarantine Plan.

Can my friend pick me up at the airport?

No, your family/friends cannot pick you up from the airport and you may not take the public bus to go to the hotel.

You are required to book a private taxi to take you from the airport to the hotel. Confirmation of taxi booking is required to complete your MSVU Quarantine Plan.

What phone number do I enter in the ArriveCan app and NS Safe Check-in Form?

When filling out the contact number for the ArriveCan app, you can enter the phone number of your hotel stopover.

When filling out the contact number for the NS Safe Travel Check-in Form, you can enter the phone number of your hotel stay, either the Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites.
