Required Self-Directed Job Search Policy
Definition
of Self-Directed Job Search
The Required Self-Directed Job Search is assigned to a student when they
decline more than two internship job opportunities.
The Self-Directed Job Search policy requires students to secure a position
through a Self-Directed Job Search. Students who complete a Self-Directed Job
Search will develop their job search skills and secure an internship through
their own job search. If a student finds an internship through their own job
search, they must have it approved by the Co-op Office before accepting the
internship job offer. To ensure a position meets the academic requirements for
an internship, the student must provide in writing from the employer the
following information:
• a job description;
• start and end dates that reflect a work term of at least 13
weeks;
• confirmation that the student will work at least 35 hours
per week;
• salary; and
• supervisor’s contact information.
Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions for the Arts
and Science Internship Program were developed to comply with FOIPOP (Freedom of
Information and Protection of Privacy). Terms and Conditions are an agreement
by you to participate fully in the internship process.

interviews start. If you are selected for an interview, you will receive an email through Career Connects prompting you to log onto the system and select and interview time slot.
- If you are selected for an interview, you will need to sign up for an interview time slot on Career Connects. Interview sign up is first come, first served in terms of available time slots. It is really important to make sure that you note all relevant details related to your interview such as: date, time, location, interviewer, etc.
- Failure to sign up for an interview by 9AM the business
day prior to the scheduled interview, will count as a missed deadline, and
your name will be removed from the interview list.
- Interviews can only be changed if there is a conflict
with mid-term or final exams. Other schedule conflicts must be handled by
students. The Co-op Office can provide you with the contact information of
other students being interviewed so you can try to re-arrange your
interview time.

are over or up to a few days later because they may want to review writing
tests, complete reference checks, or interview students from other universities.
- When you receive a job offer, you will be notified via email from Career Connects. You will have 24 business hours to accept or decline the job offer. If you do not accept or decline the offer within the 24 hour time frame, the offer will be released to the next ranked student and will be counted as a missed opportunity.
- Once you accept a job offer you are committed to that position. You cannot make the request to switch jobs if something that you see as being "better" comes up later.
