Research

Dr. MacRae’s research interests focus on issues pertaining to aging, older women, self and social identity, and health and illness. For a number of years she has conducted research on early-stage Alzheimer disease, investigating its impact on families, familial caregivers, and persons living with the illness. More recently her work has focused on the healthcare experiences and concerns of older women, in particular their experiences with physicians and the healthcare system. Currently she is working on a research project that investigates older men’s perceptions of health, health concerns, and experiences with healthcare professionals and the healthcare system.
