What is Document Delivery?

Document Delivery is responsible for obtaining materials unavailable through the MSVU either in print or online.  MSVU students, staff and faculty can borrow physical material and obtain copies of articles or chapters from works that are not held by MSVU Library.

 

We do our best to fill all requests.

What is services does Document Delivery provide?

Novanet Express

  • supplies materials from other Novanet libraries
  • requests are placed via the Novanet Catalogue.

Document Delivery

  • also known as Interlibrary Loan
  • supplies materials other libraries across Canada and internationally.
  • requests can be placed via:
  1. the ‘Request Document Delivery’ button in WorldCat,
  2. the ‘Check for Full Text…’ link in our databases,
  3. the Document Delivery from additional options in the Journal A-Z list, or
  4. the Document Delivery form on the Document Delivery home page.

Document Delivery Distance Services

  • supplies distance students with materials at their off-campus location
  • Requests are made the same way as Document Delivery requests - please add a note that you are making a distance request in the notes section of the form.  

Is there a charge to use Document Delivery?

Charges are different for anyone affiliated with MSVU (student, staff and faculty) and community borrowers.

 

Students, Staff and Faculty

There is no charge for items that are available within Canada.

 

Requester is responsible for any charges from international libraries.

 

If an item is unavailable within Canada, Document Delivery staff will contact you to confirm any charges before pursing an item internationally.  You can avoid such delays by using the ‘Max. Cost’ field of the request form. International charges average $25 or more.

 

Community Borrowers

There is a $10 charge for items that are available within Canada.

How long will it take to get the items I requested on Document Delivery?

Items ordered via Novanet Express average 3-5 days and can be shipped to any Novanet library for pick up.

 

Loan ordered via Document Delivery average 5-14 days.

Copies ordered via Document Delivery average 2-4 days for delivery.

 

If you have a specific deadline please the ‘Need by Date’ fields in the request form, as it helps us prioritize and fill requests.


All though we will try to meet your deadlines, Document Delivery is not able to guarantee delivery of any item requested.

How long can I borrow Document Delivery items?

Standard loan is 3 weeks; the loan period for items borrowed on Document Delivery Loan is determined by the library lending the material.

Can I renew my Document Delivery Loans?

Renewals are granted by the owning library.

 

To request a renewal, check the status of a request or cancel a request, login to the Document Delivery system and choose "Query Requests" from the top menu. Enter your request number in the box at the bottom of the page.

 

Document Delivery items have a blue book wrapper on the front cover. This wrapper indicates whether or not an item can be renewed.  Renewals can be requested via your Document Delivery account.  Please contact the Library at least 3 days before the item is due to request a renewal. to give us time to contact the owning library.
