English Language Programs at the Mount

The Mount 's EAP Program is for students who:
  • are entering a certificate, diploma, undergraduate, or graduate program at the Mount;
  • have been conditionally accepted to the Mount but have not yet met the English language requirements;
  • have full time acceptance but wish to improve their language and academic skills before entering their program.

The IEC also offers Mount international students free assignment and language support. In addition to assisting with grammar, listening, reading and speaking skills, we also work with on improving sentence-level writing and navigating the transition to writing in an academic context. Students can book an appointment by emailing msvu.caNote: Students that require more intensive writing support are encouraged to contact the Mount Writing Centre.

The University Bridging Program provides the fundamental skills students require to be successful full-time undergraduate Mount students.  While completing this 180-hour program, students enroll in 1 course allowing them to begin their academic study.  This program is for students with English test scores of:

  • IELTS 6.0 with no score below 5.5
  • TOEFL iBT: 81-83 with no score below 20

Study skills include:

  • effective reading
  • time management
  • critical thinking
  • public speaking

The Graduate Preparatory Program focuses on preparing students for successful participation in the Mount’s graduate programs.  The course requires students to complete 180 hours of study while concurrently enrolled in 1 required academic class. This program is for students with English test scores of:

  • IELTS 6.5 with no score below 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT 84-92 with no score below 21

Study skills include:

  • academic vocabulary
  • formal and discipline-specific writing skills
  • research skills
  • paraphrasing and summarizing
  • reading and comprehension
  • critical thinking
  • oral fluency
  • presentation skills
