UPDATE:  MAY 29, 2020

To our valued students, staff, faculty and community members – we miss you!

On May 27, the Government of Nova Scotia announced that certain businesses and facilities in NS could re-open provided operations could be modified to adhere to public health directives. One item of particular interest for us was that fitness facilities are permitted to re-open starting June 5, 2020.

The Mount Fitness Centre is a facility within the Mount Saint Vincent University campus. Based on a commitment to ensuring the health safety of all students, staff, faculty and community members and our location within a much larger organization, the Mount Fitness Centre will remain in virtual operations for now. Please know that discussions about on-campus operations continue, and access to community facilities is being considered as part of that ongoing planning.

Although we do not have an exact return date, we are excited and hopeful for the future and are awaiting the time when we can re-connect in-person!

We will continue to provide more information as soon as it becomes available.

In the meantime, stay safe and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for our virtual fitness offerings.

Day Camp COVID-19 Update:

UPDATE:  May 19, 2020
To our day camp families,

COVID-19 has certainly made an impact on our daily lives and the health and safety of your family remains a top priority.

As our Public Health experts begin to share plans for the cautious re-opening of our province, it has become increasingly apparent that organizations will need to practice physical distancing and limit the size of gatherings throughout the summer and into the fall. Due to these restrictions, we must cancel our 2020 summer day camp program.

This decision is a difficult one. We are committed to a high standard of care and are disappointed we won’t see you and your kids this summer.

Next week we will start the process of contacting each family currently registered in our summer camp program to provide full refunds.

It is our hope that, with the direction of Public Health, we will be able to offer PD camps starting this fall. As this situation continues to evolve, additional details regarding fall operations will be provided on our summer camps webpage.

Throughout the summer we are offering a series called MFC Kids on the Mount Fitness Centre Facebook page. It will include fun resources, ideas and some messages from former camp staff! Please tell your camper that we will miss them, that we are thinking about them and we can’t wait to see them in the near future!

Brittany Lowe
Recreation Coordinator

UPDATE: April 17, 2020

Dear MSVU Day Camp families,

These continue to be challenging and uncertain times. Our camp staff are thinking about all our campers and hoping everyone is safe and well.

As the COVID-19 pandemic and its affects here at home continue to evolve, we want our families to know that we are monitoring the situation closely and adhering to the public health advice provided by the Province.

In light of the Halifax municipality’s announcement on April 15 regarding the suspension of their spring and summer recreation programs, we wanted to let parents and guardians know that we have not yet made a decision regarding MSVU summer day camps. We are hopeful the situation will improve and camp will take place this summer. As we have to this point, we will continue to make decisions on whether to resume or cancel camps based on the advice from NS Public Health. As soon as a decision is made, we will be in touch.

We will also continue to provide updates at the following locations:

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email: camps@msvu.ca

New online resources to help keep families active!

Also, on April 21, our Recreation Coordinator will be starting a series of posts for children on our Mount Fitness Centre Facebook page. Once per week, we will be providing fun resources to help families to stay active, creative and connected! Be sure to check them out.

Wishing you all the best. Stay safe and take care!

Update: March 16, 2020

Due to the growing concerns over Novel Coronavirus (COVID‑19) and the latest public health advice, the university has made the decision to CANCEL this year’s:

– March Break camp

– March 25 PD camp

– April 2 PD camps

These are challenging times and this was a difficult decision. We understand and appreciate the potential and probable impact this will have on our camp families, but believe this decision is necessary and in the best interest of all involved.

We are currently calling each family personally to let you know of these changes. Full refunds will be issued and we will call you back to confirm the refund or collect any additional details if required.

We would like to thank you for choosing the Mount Day Camp program. We look forward to returning to our regular offerings in the near future.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email is at camps@msvu.ca.
