When the oCaritasne and only building on the MSVU campus burned down in 1951, the people of Halifax showed tremendous support in providing locations for students to have their classroom lectures. To show their appreciation, the Sisters of Charity established Caritas Day as a day of community service. The Business and Tourism students volunteer their time on this day giving back to the community. The Mount students and faculty have an opportunity to connect with the Sisters of Charity, and to work together outside the classroom setting in a charitable event that is both beneficial personally and academically.

“I really enjoyed participating in the Caritas Day – it was a great learning experience and I feel like it is the least I can do to give back to the community that was so generous to the Mount in its time of need.” Mackenzie Parker Winter 2020

Hopefully next year we can show our appreciation to the community by getting back out on the streets!

Caritas Day 2020

Caritas, Latin term meaning ‘love for all’

Our students and faculty fulfilled the true meaning of the word this year by volunteering at these different venues:

Caritas Day 2019

We did get hit with a storm again this year but over 100 students and faculty didn’t let that dampen their spirits. This fun rewarding day began at 8:30am in Vinnie’s Pub. Volunteers then spent 3 hours out in the community at 3 different venues giving back before completing the day with some delicious Pizza.

2018 Business and Tourism day of community service

This year the Business and Tourism Department capitalized on the opportunity to give back to Halifax with approximately 85 student and faculty volunteers out in the community from 9am to noon. Caritas Day 2017

2017 Annual Food Drive

Wednesday, January 25, 2017

On top of roughly 60 students and faculty who went out door to door collecting food, we had another 25 students working alongside the Sisters of Charity at Adsum House, as well as out of the Cold Shelter, Hand in Hand Shelter and the Chebucto Community Centre. It was wonderful to see such a diverse group of students engaged in giving back to our community.

Thanks everyone!
