Mount Saint Vincent University offers an optional co-operative education program for Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students. Co-op is an academic program that integrates your studies with paid, career-related work experience. As a co-op student you will be a productive member of the employer’s team of professionals. When you graduate with a co-operative education degree, you will have one full year of relevant work experience related to your chosen career.
You would apply for co-op in the second year of your degree; however, depending on the number of units completed, you may be able to apply for the co-op program in third year.
The Mount’s Business Administration Program has an agreement in place with Nova Scotia Community College, New Brunswick Community College and PEI’s Holland College. If you are a graduate of one of these programs, you may be eligible for a transfer credit for your first co-op work term.
Co-op extends your degree program by four months. These four months are more than offset by the one full year of career-related experience. You will still be ahead of your classmates in jump-starting your business career.

We surveyed recent co-op graduates and the results showed that co-op grads are succeeding in the workplace!
In addition to the success of our graduates, professors have said that co-operative education helps students to develop a more thorough understanding of the theory taught in the classrooms.
Co-op makes a difference in the both the short term by improving the academic success while in school, and in the long term, by improving your success in finding employment after graduation.
You are not guaranteed a co-op position; however the Mount co-op program has more positions than students:
In addition to a surplus of positions, we deliver comprehensive professional development sessions providing you with the skills needed to succeed. Topics covered include: resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, portfolio development & understanding the workplace.
We have a personalized approach to co-op ensuring that everyone will have an opportunity to work one-on-one with a member of the Co-op Team to maximize learning and the opportunity to excel.
The co-operative education degree is a 23 unit degree. Tuition applies to all academic credits, and a co-op term is equivalent to one full unit of credit.
Co-op positions are paid work terms, so tuition fees can be offset by co-operative education income. In addition to the co-op income, studies have shown that co-op students graduate with 32% lower debt loads, and earn a higher salary in the first year of work.
