The safety of all members of the MSVU community is of utmost importance. As we gradually adjust our on-campus operations, we want to be sure you have the information you need to protect yourself and those around you.
Students can book their visit to the library, bookstore, and the aboriginal student centre through the Office 365 booking system. Please note that the booking system requires you to use your MSVU Office 365 account. If you are having difficulties accessing the booking system, make sure that you are signed into your MSVU account.
The MSVU Library will be open for student access by appointment starting September 8, 2020 (including study rooms available for solo use). Hours of on-campus operations will be Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The Library continues to provide full virtual services as well – a Library & Archives Guide to Resources & Services is available on the MSVU website.
To access the Library, you will need to book a time in advance – you can book a Library visit online. You will then need to complete an online health assessment on the day you are coming to the Library (including Residence students). Those with appointments to access the Library will need to check-in via the main entrance to the McCain Centre [map]. Residence students will use the Assisi entrance. Masks must be worn at all times in all Library spaces (even while seated), except in study rooms. As well, there can be no food or drink in the main library areas, but students can continue to book study rooms, where food and drink are permitted.
A reminder that Library materials can also be reserved for curbside pick-up at the McCain Atrium desk effective September 8 (and at the Assisi Desk prior to that).
Mount Fitness Centre
In keeping with updated Public Health restrictions, the MSVU fitness centre/gym will be closed to all in-person activity effective end of day Wednesday, November 25th to at least December 10th. Note that this change will not impact virtual fitness and recreation program offerings – the team in Athletics & Recreation is still here for you and their virtual fitness program is FREE for MSVU students. Sign up today by emailing email@example.com and visit them on social media (Facebook / Instagram).
Aboriginal Student Centre
Patrick Small Legs-Nagge, Special Advisor to the MSVU President on Aboriginal Affairs, will be available to meet with students in the Aboriginal Student Centre for limited hours on Wednesdays, starting September 9. Appointments must be made directly with Patrick in advance and completion of an online health assessment form will be required before each visit. Patrick can be reached at Patrick.SmallLegs-Nagge@msvu.ca. Masks will be required. Drop-ins are not permitted at this time. Priority during Patrick’s weekly time in the ASC will be given to supporting Indigenous learners at MSVU, including students enrolled in the Aboriginal Academic Access Post-Secondary (AAAPS) program.
The Mount Bookstore
As of November 16, the MSVU Bookstore will once again be welcoming students, faculty and staff in store, though by appointment only. The Bookstore will be accessible on campus from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., except for holidays. Appointments can be made online for a 30-minute time slot – a maximum of two shoppers will be allowed in the store at a time and masks must be worn at all times.
On the day of your appointment, before arriving on campus, please complete the online health assessment. Once on campus, please check in for your Bookstore appointment via the main entrance of the McCain Centre [map]. You can then access the Bookstore via the pedway to the Rosaria Student Centre accessible from the 4th floor of the McCain Centre. Residence students will use the Assisi entrance. Please remain outside the Bookstore until staff check you in for your visit.
At this time, the Bookstore is not able to process cash transactions, provide fittings for graduation rings, or rent gowns/hoods. Purchases can be made with debit, credit card or Bookstore gift cards.
Online health assessment form
All those coming to campus must complete the health assessment form (before you come) on the day of your pre-arranged visit. It only needs to be completed if you will be on campus that day. A reminder that you should not come to campus if you have any symptoms of COVID-19.
General safety reminders
Masks are now required in common indoor spaces on campus. Those coming on campus also need to ensure physical distancing between themselves and others, practice coughing and sneezing etiquette, and ensure frequent handwashing. We strongly recommend washing your hands when you arrive on campus. Though hand washing with soap and water is best, additional hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout campus.
Faculty and staff interim office access
Effective Tuesday, September 8, 2020, occasional essential office access for faculty and staff can be requested by completing the online request form available here. Faculty and staff should not attend campus until you’ve received confirmation that your request has been approved. Access can be requested for between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A key fob/access card will be required.
Please note that the main entrance (Atrium level) of the McCain Centre is to be used by only those with confirmed library bookings. Faculty and staff should access their offices using the card access entrance on the third floor (side) of McCain.
