As many of you are aware, the University is currently in negotiations with the Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association to reach a new collective agreement. The Association represents permanent full-time faculty, term faculty, librarians, and lab instructors. Yesterday, the Faculty Association notified us that 90% of their members had cast ballots, and that the Association has voted in favour of a strike mandate.
Although the Faculty Association has voted in favour of a strike mandate, this does not mean that a strike is imminent. A vote by the membership will determine the union’s authority to call a strike if the negotiation and conciliation process does not result in an acceptable agreement. Prior to any strike, parties are required to go through a government-mandated conciliation process. Negotiations are still underway, with 4.5 bargaining days still booked for October.
We remain committed to the collective bargaining process and working with the Faculty Association to reach a settlement. We want to ensure all members of the Mount community receive timely and accurate information, and will continue to keep you updated.
