I am writing to provide you with an update on negotiations with Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3912, which have been ongoing since April 2013. CUPE, Local 3912 represents part-time faculty teaching at the University on a contract basis.

During its meeting on November 27th, the University was informed by the CUPE bargaining team that they will be filing for conciliation. Although the parties have resolved a number issues, many still remain unresolved. The University is hopeful the addition of a conciliator will allow for a more expeditious resolution.

As you know, filing for conciliation does not mean that a work stoppage is imminent. There remain several steps in the process to go through and the University is confident that we will be able to reach a settlement with the assistance of a conciliator. You can visit http://www.gov.ns.ca/lae/conciliation/conciliation.asp to learn more about the role of a conciliator.
