This message is to provide an update on negotiations with NSGEU Local 81, which have been ongoing since October. The Nova Scotia General Employees Union (NSGEU) represents administrative, technical, and clerical staff at the University.

During its meeting on November 29th, the University was informed by the NSGEU bargaining team that they will be filing for conciliation. Although the parties have been successful in reaching a resolution on most issues that were brought to the table, some issues remain unresolved. While we are disappointed with the union’s decision, we understand that this is similar to the approach that NSGEU is using at other universities.

Filing for conciliation does not mean that a work stoppage is imminent, and there remain several steps in the process to go through. The University is confident that we will be able to reach a settlement with the assistance of a conciliator. To learn more about the role of a conciliator, please visit http://www.gov.ns.ca/lae/conciliation/conciliation.asp.

We will continue to provide updates when further information is available If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
