2011 University Entrance Scholarship
Areas of Studies: Hospitality, Hotel, Tourism

 

Who Can Apply

  • High school students in their final year of school and who are enrolling in September of this year in a university degree program in one of the above mentioned areas of training or study. This only applies to universities who offer the above areas of studies in their first year.
  • Third year university students who are enrolling in September at the above mentioned areas of studies. This applies to universities whose above mentioned areas of studies start in the third year, not in the first year of a degree program.
  • 2 + 2 program -  Students who have finished a 2-year college diploma program and registered in September to start their third year at a university for another 2-year degree program on the above area of studies.
  • Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrants.


How to Apply

Please forward your application form and the following documents to the Registrar's Office
by Friday, April 29, 2011:

  • Completed Application form (select PDF Application Version or Word Application Version)
  • OFFICIAL Transcript of Records (web grades, photocopy, emailed or faxed transcripts are NOT accepted)
     - High School students: high school transcript from previous academic year and report card from
       current academic year
     - Third (3rd) year of a degree program: first and second university transcripts or final year of a college
       diploma program.
     - 2 + 2 program: final year of a college diploma program
  • Letter(s) of recommendation from your program instructor and/or Administrator must be signed and
    must include address, telephone and email address (on school letterhead)
  • Letter(s) of recommendation from your past or current employers must be signed and must include
    address, telephone and email address (on company letterhead).  Volunteer work will also be considered.
  • Resumé

The Foundation reserves the right to check all references.  All documents submitted in French must include an English translation.

Deadline for Submission

Applications must be received by the Registrar's Office no later than Friday, April 29, 2011.  Applications received after this date will not be eligible.

Criteria

Applications are to be judged on the following criteria. Points assigned to each of the criteria (from a total of 100 points) are as follows:

  • Work experience (20): based on quality and length of work experience with extra points for foodservice, hospitality, and culinary-related experience and for increased levels of responsibility
  • Scholarship record (20):  based on grade point average
  • Leadership and ability to get along with others (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions.
  • Professional promise (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions
  • Discretionary points (10): given to the discretion of each judge and based amongst other things on quality of application (neatness, imagination and effort put into the presentation).

 

Payment of Scholarship Money The scholarship money will be paid in its entirety in November of the year the scholarship is awarded.  The Foundation will seek confirmation of full-time enrollment from the university before payment is made. Payment is made directly to the university, for credit towards the recipient’s tuition fees.  If the tuition fee has already been paid in full, the money will then be paid to the student by the university.

Website Posting of Recipients The recipients list will be posted on the Foundation website www.thechf.ca/scholarships by August of the year the scholarship is awarded.
