Starting November 2, the Capital Health District will be offering H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccinations to the community. You can visit www.cdha.nshealth.ca for the schedule and locations should you or your family want to get vaccinated.
As you know, there are cases of H1N1 in the Halifax Regional Municipality and as part of the larger HRM community, our students, faculty and staff are also being affected. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of what the University is doing and what you can do to prevent becoming ill.
The University is taking preventive measures including:
- posting signage in all washrooms and around campus that demonstrate proper
hand-washing and other preventative techniques
- sanitizing high traffic areas such as stair railings and other shared surfaces
- making hand sanitizers available around campus
Remember to follow simple preventative measures to protect yourself and others from H1N1:
- coughing and sneezing in your sleeve rather than in your hands
- washing your hands frequently
- not sharing drinks or food
- staying away from others who are ill with the flu
- seeking medical advice if you experience severe flu-like symptoms
If you do become ill please stay at home until your symptoms have dissipated. If you are a student, remember to contact your professors to inform them of your illness. As always, you can contact our Health Services office at 457-6354 if you have any health related questions.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates here on our website when they are available to us.
