NSERC USRA Competition

Deadline for submission: February 4, 2011, 12 noon – Research Office, EV 231

Value of Award (based on 16 weeks, 35 hrs/wk)
NSERC Contribution: $4,500.00
MSVU Research Office: $1,125.00
Researcher: $1,125.00 (minimum)
Total Value: $6,750.00 (including the 11.5% benefits)
~Please note that students working less than the allocated time will have their award prorated. ~

Actual student stipend - $6,050 for a full 16 week period

Please note the following application procedure for students wishing to apply for a 2011 NSERC USRA position:
Students are asked to provide the following to the Research Office (the original plus 7 copies of each):
1. MAX 1 Page - A letter from the student outlining a research plan
2. Student’s current resume
3. Student’s transcript
4. MAX 1 Page - Letter of support from the faculty member with whom the student plans on working and an indication that they will provide the minimum salary contribution of $1125.00. (NOTE: in the event that a faculty member is associated with more than one student, the faculty member must rank order the candidates)

The Committee on Research and Publications reminds faculty and students that they must adhere to the NSREC rules and regulations for USRA candidates (website: http://www.nserc.gc.ca/sf_e.asp?nav=sfnav&lbi=1a  ).

The University will ensure that a minimum of 50% of candidates chosen will be female.

The science member of the CRP will be absent for the adjudication of this competition. Weight will be given as follows:
Transcript and Resume – 50%
Student’s Letter – 25%
Faculty Letter – 25%

Successful candidates will be notified and will be required to complete the NSERC forms and provide official transcripts at that time. NSERC has announced that no application that is handwritten will be accepted. Further details on NSERC’s change in policies to USRAs will be sent under a separate email.
