Community Connections and Creative Research Communications

Call for Proposals

Community Connections and Creative Research Communications

This call for proposals is enabled by SSHRC’s Aid to Small Universities (ASU) Research Grant for the period 2011-2014. The Mount received the ASU grant to support research and foster research capacity focused on community linkages and research communication strategies intended to enhance public access to and engagement with research. This grant will also provide encouragement and support for new, inclusive initiatives that enable Mount scholars to develop and lead interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research collaborations that may include attention to creative research design/methodologies and practices.

Mount faculty are invited to submit proposals to the Committee on Research and Publications (CRP), chaired by the Associate Vice-President, Academic and Research. The CRP will review proposals three times each fiscal year: October 15, January 15, and March 15. The CRP will assess proposals on the basis of their potential to foster innovative, interdisciplinary, community-focused research and research expertise and their attention to strategies for knowledge translation and dissemination for enhanced community and public access and engagement.  Of particular concern to adjudication are the potentials to foster collaborative initiatives likely to result in the development of proposals for submission to external research funds competitions. Additionally, the CRP adjudications attach particular weight to considerations such as opportunities for student learning as well as demonstrated achievement of outcomes from previously funded research.

Funds granted should be used in one or more of the following ways:

  • As support for strategically important working seminars designed to generate interdisciplinary and community collaborations;
  • As support for workshops wherein MSVU faculty will be offered opportunities to advance their understandings of the ways and means to build successful research collaborations, as well as effective means of knowledge mobilization, translation, and communication;
  • As support for the timely development of community-partnered proposals intended for submission to external funding competitions;
  • As support for faculty and student training in participatory research designs and methodologies with an emphasis on knowledge translation strategies;
  • As support for collaborative, pilot research studies designed to foster and explore interdisciplinary, community research designs and methodologies as a key, initial step in the development of proposals for submission to external funding competitions;
  • As support for one or two smaller scale collaborative research projects that address pressing social policy issues;
  • As support for MSVU-lead inter-university, interdisciplinary, community research initiatives and proposals;
  • As support for interdisciplinary, community team innovative knowledge mobilization, translation, and dissemination innovations; and,
  • As support for the development of research experience and expertise for student research assistants in areas of community-based, participatory research and creative research methodologies that focus on public access and engagement.
