Dr. Ardra Cole is the Associate Vice-President (Academic and Research)
Dr. Cole was formerly a Professor in the Department of Adult Education and Counselling Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, and served as Vice-Chair of the Research Ethics Policy and Advisory Committee and Chair of the Social Sciences and Humanities and Education Research Ethics Board. She is also an alumna of the Mount, having completed a Bachelor of Education at the University. She holds Doctoral and Masters degrees in Education from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University.
Dr. Cole has a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and administrative service. She has extensive experience in graduate student supervision and a strong commitment to the enhancement of both faculty and student engagement in research activities and inquiry based learning. Her areas of research and publication include teacher development, research methodologies and most recently, aging and health. She has a sustained, ongoing and successful record of achievement in securing research funding for individual and major collaborative research from The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and other funding agencies. She has significant expertise in developing research collaborations across disciplines, institutions and sectors.
The Associate Vice-President (Academic and Research) is a senior member of the administrative team, reporting to the Vice-President (Academic) and provides leadership for the administration of the University’s research activities. The University’s faculty are committed to research and to providing opportunities for involvement in research both to undergraduate and graduate students. Recognized as a leader in innovative education and academic excellence, Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) is primarily an undergraduate university with strong programs in arts, sciences and professional areas. MSVU also offers several graduate programs at the master’s level and is planning to add a doctoral program in Education.
