New Horizons, New Challenges - Girls making a difference
On Friday, March 3rd, 2017 - Mount Saint Vincent University and the Alexa McDonough Institute for Women, Gender, and Social Justice (AMI) will welcome junior and senior high school girls from across the province as well as delegates from local colleges, universities, community organizations and local schools to the Girls 2017 Conference. This is our sixth annual conference celebrating International Women's Week.
Young women at the conference will have the opportunity to participate in various workshops and activity sessions which include confidence building, leadership skills, personal and professional growth, and developing stronger minds and bodies.They will also be able to share their ideas and opinions while learning effective strategies for expressing themselves and new ways to explore making a difference in their communities. Workshop and activity sessions will give young women the opportunity to tell their stories, share their ideas and advice with each other while pushing boundaries in new areas and having some fun in a gathering that is a safe space for girls to explore new horizons and new challenges.
This year the Girls Conference will hold a literary competition for young women who would like to submit a fictional or non-fiction story, poem or artistic piece on the subject of power. Top three winners will receive monetary prizes and first place will be published in Understorey Magazine. Please see the contest guidelines for submission. Note: participation in this competition is not required for registration or delegate participation in the conference.

The Girls 2017 Conference is offering delegates a full conference experience in one day this year. The conference fee is $25.00 per delegate. This fee includes a buffet lunch and a morning food and beverage break. Methods of payment are cash, debit, cheque or money order (on site or in advance).
All sessions will be held between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm, with a one and one-half hour, lunch break with a featured key note speaker. Participants are encouraged to arrive between 8:00 - 9:00 am for registration confirmation and check in on the 3rd floor of the Rosaria Conference Centre. There will be poster displays and organizational information tables in the main conference lobby and the multi-purpose meeting room. Coming early gives participants the opportunity to meet others who are attending the conference.
Individual delegates and groups are required to submit a registration form. Workshop session leaders and guest speakers are not required to submit a form unless special accommodation is required. The conference is limited to 200 delegates and presenters, so reserve your spot ASAP.
