Graduate Students Attend CIHR's "Summer Program on Aging".
Three of our graduate students--Pamela Ross, Nadine Brun, and Rachel MacDougall-- attended the Canadian Institute for Health Research's (CIHR) Summer Program on Aging, and came back energized and rejuvenated about aging research. This annual program, which took place this year over four days in BC, exposed these students to many aspects of research on aging, including learning about grant writing, submitting papers to the Canadian Journal on Aging, and networking. Registration funding from Dr. Humble and Dr. Keefe (FSGN) and Dr. Shiner (Business and Tourism) helped them to attend this important learning/networking opportunity.
Also, congratulations to the following faculty members for their recent achievements:
Dr. Áine Humble and Dr. Janice Keefe received a grant from the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF) to examine the connection between caregiving, involuntary retirement, and gender. Dr. Humble is also part of a team that just received funding to look at retirement issues for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Finally, Dr. Deborah Norris also received a grant from NSHRF to explore the service needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Both Dr. Keefe and Dr. Felicia Eghan recently received awards for papers they presented at conferences. Dr. Keefe received the Novartis Pharma Award for Best Research for her paper, Developing new strategies to support caregivers of the aged in Canada: Projections of need and their policy implications, at the Union for the Scientific Study of Population's XXVUSSP International Population Conference in Tours, France. Dr. Eghan received an award at the Canadian Association for Research In Home Economics conference.
