Beverlie Dietze

Background

Beverlie began her educational journey in early childhood studies at Sheridan College, Oakville, Ontario. She completed a Bachelor of Education (University of New Brunswick), Masters of Adult Education (St. Francis Xavier University) and a Doctorate of Philosophy (University of Toronto). Beverlie’s career has fluctuated between holding teaching positions in early childhood education and adult education programs and administrative positions in the college system. She was involved in the development of the first child care program in the Province of New Brunswick and the first early childhood education program distance program in the Ontario college system.  She led a team of experts in Amman, Jordan to design and implement an early childhood education diploma program and a post diploma program in learning disabilities.

Child and Youth Study

Dr. Dietze is an Assistant Professor int he Department of Child and Youth Study. She teaches the following courses:

CHYS 1120 Essentials of Child and Youth Care Practice

CHYS 2209 Issues in Early Childhood Care and Education

Beverlie’s research interests are focused on early learning and child care programming and administrative topics, including outdoor play, risk taking, physical activity, and staff development models.  In 2011, she co-authored a textbook on children’s play and in 2006 she authored a textbook on the foundations of early childhood education.

Over the last several years, Beverlie has presented at conferences across Canada, Jordon, and Norway on topics related to her research interests.  She received funding from the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada to research and  develop teaching and learning materials for use in college and university child study programs including the development of the following videos:  Children’s active play in the Canadian outdoors, Outdoor play, and Teen mothers and infant attachment.
