Dr. Wanda George, Associate Professor, Tourism & Hospitality Management

Wanda George Profile Picture 2009Dr. Wanda George is a tenured associate professor and researcher in the Department of Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management at Mount Saint Vincent University, where she specializes in tourism planning and development.

Her research and scholarship concentrates on the complex relationships and interconnections amongst tourism, commodification of local culture, community change and rural sustainability. She holds a PhD in Rural Planning and Development from the University of Guelph.

Wanda is Founding Director of the World Heritage Tourism Research Network (WHTRN) (www.whtrn.ca), a collaboration of international researchers whose goal is to develop an interdisciplinary research agenda to investigate tourism, cultural and heritage management issues at World Heritage Sites (WHS). She currently works with researchers in Peru, Belgium, USA and Finland on projects related to tourism at WHS. She has recently been invited as Visiting Academic to Åbo Akademi University, Finland, in April 2011.

Wanda is member of the Management Board, Centre for Women in Business, Halifax and held previous Board positions with the Tourism Industry of Nova Scotia, Tourism & Travel Research Association (Canada) and former Nova Scotia Arts & Culture Partnership Council. Prior to MSVU, she was Coordinator & Editor of the Acadia Institute of Case Studies and lectured at Acadia University, St. Mary’s University and University of Guelph.
