RESEARCH

My research interests are historical influences on present-day dietetic practice, and the integration of education theory in approaches to nutrition education, and dietetics education and training. Specific areas of inquiry include: lived experience of eating in illness and implications for approaches to nutrition education; (pre)history of dietetics, and history of dietetic practice; approaches to dietetic education and training; dietitians’ participation in practice-based research; and arts-based inquiry and practice.

In 2010, I was a Visiting Fellow at Chawton House Library, Hampshire, England (www.chawton.org) where I started work on the history of the invalid’s dietary, the forerunner to present day medical nutrition therapy practices. I serve as a collaborator in the Community University Research Alliance (CURA) on Community Food Security (CFS), Participatory Approaches to Exploring the Policy Interface Between Food Access and Supply (Activating Policy Change for CFS) (PI: Dr. Patty Williams, Mount Saint Vincent University).
