Crystal Garrett (Assistant Professor) BA (Windsor), MA (University of Western Ontario)
Crystal Garrett teaches classes in Public Relations Writing along with Mass Media and
Public Opinion. She has taught courses in media at the University of King’s College
School of Journalism. Crystal began academic teaching while working as a broadcast
journalist, a career she began more than twelve years ago in Southwestern Ontario, then
Montreal, before moving to the Maritimes. She is currently an Anchor, Reporter and
Producer for CTV News Atlantic in Halifax. Crystal has worked for all three major
television networks in Canada and her work has been broadcast internationally on CNN.
Crystal draws upon her experience and contacts in media to bring the outside world into
the classroom. She uses real-life examples of public relations at work in the context of
an active newsroom and other professional environments. She also invites journalists
and members of the media into the classroom to share their relevant experiences with students.
In her career, Crystal has also worked in Public Relations for both non-profit and corporate clients, including Ford Canada and General
Motors Canada. Crystal is also a competitive long distance runner who has represented Canada internationally in the 10 km distance.
