Brent King (
Associate Professor) BSc, BJ (Carleton), MBA (Dalhousie)
With a degree in journalism and an MBA, Brent King,
associate professor, brings an excellent blend of
academic and practical experience to his teaching in the
public relations degree.
He has taught primarily in the public relations writing sequence where he has developed innovative assignments with community clients that have enabled public relations students to develop strong portfolios before they graduate.
A keen supporter of co-operative education, Prof. King has been a faculty co-op advisor for a number of years and has published research into co-operative education. He was instrumental in establishing The Mount's participation in the Queenstown Education Development Science Writing Workshop where every fall he takes a group of public relations students to a professional development workshop where they work with young scientists and journalism students to develop skills in presenting science to lay publics.
Prof. King's research interests include the complementary (and conflicting) roles of public relations practitioners and journalists when communicating about controversial issues. He was a faculty member of a cross-discipline team that developed and taught a first-year foundation course, UNIV 1101. Prof. King was the Mount's 2005 recipient of the Instructional Leadership Award.
