Alla Kushniryk (Assistant Professor)

Alla Kushniryk came to the Mount from the Ukraine via the United States, where she earned a PhD in Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2008.  She has a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature and a Master's degree in Linguistics from Chernivtsi National University, Ukraine. 

In the last several years, Alla has taught Organizational Communication, Small Group Communication, Public Speaking and Sociolinguistic.  Her research centers on organizational communication, small group communication, communication technologies, and quantitative research methods.  Her dissertation was entitled "Producing effective messages in multi-communication environment: Managing multitasking in organizational meetings."  This mixed methodology study investigated the impact of multitasking communication behaviors on listening effectiveness and meeting outcomes.  In addition, she developed and validated an instrument to measure individual multitasking abilities. Alla has presented papers at annual meetings of Southern States Communication Association,

National Communication Association, Midwest Association of Public Opinion Research, and linguistic conferences.  Additionally, she published a number of articles on language analysis, as a sole author.
