2.2.11 Time Limit for Program Completion

GD Calendar Banner

Students must complete all program requirements towards masters degrees within five calendar years from the time of initial registration exclusive of approved leaves of absence.

Leaves of Absence
Students with bona fide reasons, such as illness or parental leave, for not registering in 1.0 unit in any academic calendar year (September to August) must apply for a leave of absence from the program by submitting a Request for Leave of Absence Form to the Dean of Graduate Studies, prior to the start of the semester in which the leave begins. Students may normally be granted a leave for up to twelve months only once in their program. Students on leave of absence are not entitled to University services nor to any kind of supervision during the period of their leave.

ExtensionsStudents who anticipate that they will be unable to complete program requirements within the five year time period must apply in writing to the Dean of Graduate Studies, before the end of the fifth year. Normally only students completing the thesis requirement will be granted an extension.
