Teaching Philosophy
For me, teaching is not a one-way street paved by the egotistical delirium of declaring "truths" and dispensing wisdom. My focus is on the journey, as imperfect as it sometimes may be, and encouraging students to understand the beauty that different views bring to any discussion. I work with students collaboratively, drawing out and building on their strengths. Ultimately, my goals as a professor are to engage, encourage, enrich and embolden students. It is important to me that students understand that these skills apply in all areas of their lives, not just the classroom. I stress learning as a life-long activity that continues beyond their time at University. I regularly put these principles to work in the classroom. By encouraging their participation and valuing their discussion, I hope I show them that a true teacher never stops being a student.
