Current Students

SOAN at the Mount does not merely tell students about the world, it allows them to develop the tools to engage it

Firmly grounded in the allied disciplines of sociology and anthropology, SOAN at the Mount is a programme that strives to facilitate students’’ cultivation of key, critical intellectual and technical skills in social research. Through a commitment to a research-centred approach to student learning and an emphasis on engagement with some of the most pressing social issues of our time, SOAN provides a robust foundation for students’’ future success in a wide variety of fields. Our faculty complement a focus on social research design and practice with substantial expertise in the areas of globalization, social movements, gender and sexualities, social economy, the life course, and social inequalities, change, and control.

Recognizing our Students' Achievements

We recognize that our students encounter many demands each year, and as such like to take the time to celebrate when achievements are made.

The SOAN department annually presents two awards to outstanding students: the Marial Mosher Endowed Scholarship and the Graduating Sociology/Anthropology Student Book Prize. These awards serve to highlight academic excellence in our program and recognize the time and effort our students put into their studies.
