The History Department would like to congratulate several of our former students!
Christine Whitehouse, BA (Hons) '09, entered the Ph.D. programme in History at Carleton University this fall. She has been awarded a three-year Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (doctoral) offered by SSHRC. Her research topic is "The Free Germany Movement: Re-examining Jewish-Communist Identity in East Germany through Biography, 1945-1953."
Leslie Baker, BA (Hons) '07, has been awarded a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship for 2011-2012 to complete doctoral work in History at the University of Saskatchewan. Leslie's project is "Institutionalizing Eugenics: Custody, Class, Gender and Education in Nova Scotia's Response to Mental Defectives, 1890-1961." Leslie returned to the Department in winter 2011 to teach the course HIST 2207 Social History of European Women
Mike McGuire, BA '07, has recently defended his MA thesis at Dalhousie University. It was titled "How the East Coast Rocks: A History of Hip Hop in Halifax, 1985-1997."

Nick Longaphy, BA (Hons) '05, is a Ph.D. student in History at McMaster University. Under the supervision of Dr. Ken Cruikshank, he is currently writing his dissertation, tentatively titled, "Out of the Spotlight: Rural Canada and WWII Homefront."
Heidi MacDonald, BA (Hons) '90, is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Lethbridge.
Christine Eisan, BA (Hons) '03, works as a research and policy analyst for the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
Lorraine Brenton, BA ‘03, works with the Halifax Port Authority.
Shelly Martin, BA (Hons) '00, works with the Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq in Truro.
