Valedictorian Profile: Andrea Colley, BA, BEd
Andrea Colley credits her fearless outlook on life to her large family, her three children and her favourite poem: MaryAnn Williamson’s Our Greatest Fear. Andrea began her studies almost a decade ago, enrolled as an undergraduate student. Her ability to juggle family life, community involvement and academics has been an inspiration to those who know her, and she does it with an ear-to-ear smile.

Richard Zurawski completes the Mount's first PhD in Educational Studies class
The Mount’s new inter-university Doctoral Program in Educational studies (with Acadia and St.FX) is the only one of its kind in the region. Richard Zurawski, filmmaker, writer, meteorologist, public speaker, television and radio host, enrolled in the Mount’s new program and believes that being surrounded by lifelong learners is invaluable. The Mount Appoints Chair in Learning Disabilities - First of its kind in Canada
The Mount has recently appointed Dr. Jamie Metsala as the first Gail and Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Learning Disabilities. This endowed Chair is the first of its kind in Canada, and will provide Mount graduates with enhanced knowledge and skills to identify and teach children with learning disabilities in a classroom setting. Make a Difference in a Child’s Life: Become a Literacy Tutor

Lunchtime Volunteer
Grosvenor Wentworth Elementary School is located on Downing Street in behind the Wedgwood Plaza on Dunbrack/Kearney Lake road. It is a wonderful community school which is in need of lunchtime volunteers and lunchtime programs. We are reaching out to young aspiring teachers that may want to get some volunteer experience in the elementary school setting. We have had requests for things such as Outdoor club, Drama Club, Sewing/knitting club, Chess/Checkers, Lego club. If any students have a special interest or talent in any of these and would be interested in offering them on a weekly basis, this could be a great volunteer experience or even a term project!

Volunteers WantedSt. Stephen's Elementary School is starting a special Reading Program with grades Primary through Two to improve fluency and comprehension in this key age group. The students are matched up with a volunteer and together the student gets extra one on one time to practice his/her reading skills. The commitment is one hour a week; the reward is guiding a student towards stronger reading skills.
