BEd in Association with St Josephs's Teachers' College
Introduction
The Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) program is designed to engage current primary teachers holding a teachers’ diploma in practical
and theoretical arts and science and academic courses for teaching in dynamic classrooms. This program includes both professional and arts and science based courses to up-grade a teaching certificate to meet the Bachelor of Education requirements of a Bachelor of Education degree with the Mount. Recognizing the needs of mature and working students the program is offered on a part-time basis by workshops during the school year and institutes during the summer months. The Mount's instructors travel to Jamaica to teach the courses, which are supported via distance technology such as Moodle, telephone and email. This program is accredited by the University Council of Jamaica
History
Since 2002 the Mount has been working with St. Joseph’s Teachers’ College to offer a Two-Year Bachelor of Education degree through part-time study.
St. Joseph’s Teachers' College, Jamaica
St. Joseph’s Teachers' College (SJTC) was founded in 1897 by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church, with six students in its first year. While the college is co-educational, women make up the majority of students. The College has been funded by the Ministry of Education since 1940 and follows the regulations and programs of the Joint Board of Teacher Education. In the 1970s the college strengthened its Early Childhood and Primary areas. The Largest enrolment to the college was in the late seventies which was over six hundred students. At the request of the Ministry of Education the college enrolment was set at three hundred and thirty.
St Joseph’s Teachers' College offers an Early Childhood Diploma in Teaching, Diploma in Teaching in Primary Education, Certificate in School Management and Bachelor of Education in Primary Education - in association with the Mount..JPG)
