We are pleased to announce that 4 of our recent graduates from the GSLL program have begun their doctoral studies in the inaugural class of the inter-university Doctoral program in Educational Studies.

Catherine Baillie Abidi. Her supervisor is Dr. Beth Lange, Adult Education, St FX. Catherine’s research topic is: Humanitarian Education & Active Citizenship.
Erin Careless. Her supervisor is Dr. Patti Gouthro, GSLL, MSVU. Erin’s research will focus on: How Women Create Balance and Foster Citizenship through Lifelong Learning Pathways.
Scott MacPhail. His supervisor is Dr. Dononvan Plumb, GSLL, MSVU. Scott’s research topic is: What are the impacts of neoliberal generated lifelong learning discourses, generated since the 1970s, having on social class structure?
Késa Munroe-Anderson. Her supervisor is Dr. Susie Brigham, GSLL, MSVU. Késa will focus her research on: Spirituality in Education for African Nova Scotian Learners.
These 4 students join 10 other doctoral students whose ‘home’ institutions are MSVU, St. FX and Acadia. The students are taking 2 courses on the MSVU campus in July: Foundations of Educational Inquiry (Instructor: Dr. Jim Greenlaw) and Methodological Perspectives on Educational Research (Instructor: Dr. Susie Brigham [with input from Sue McGregor]). Practicum Students Host Open House
March 19, 2011
This year, Studies in Lifelong Practicum students are hosting a year end Open House where they will showcase the various projects they were engaged in for their practicum requirement during the past academic year. It promises to be interesting and illuminating!
The open house is being held on April 4, from 6 -8 pm in the Don MacNeil room, 5th floor of Rosaria. Coffee/tea and nibblees will be provided.

On April 7, Dr. Donovan Plumb from Mount Saint Vincent University will be in Cape Breton to offer an Information Session at Marconi Campus NSCC regarding the new Cape Breton offering of the Graduate Studies in Lifelong Learning Program. Starting this September, The Mount will offer courses at Marconi Campus leading to Masters of Education or Masters of Arts in Education in Studies in Lifelong Learning.

The Mount's Graduate Studies in Lifelong Learning Plans New Cohort in Cape BretonDecember 15, 2010 To meet rising demand for our Masters of Education program in Studies in Lifelong Learning, MSVU Faculty of Education is planning a 20 student cohort in Cape Breton to start September, 2011. According to collaborators in Cape Breton, there is a great and pressing need for a graduate studies in lifelong learning in the region. Bruce Hubley, Team Leader of Student Services for the Nova Scotia Community College in Sydney, believes that a program delivered in the Cape Breton area would be very popular.
Program organizers intend to deliver the program entirely in Cape Breton. Instructors will travel to Cape Breton to teach courses in weekend workshops.
GSLL Plans New Cohort in Africentric Research and PolicyDecember 15, 2010 In collaboration with
The Council on African Canadian Education/Africentric Learning Institute (CACE/ALI), GSLL is planning a new Masters Cohort in Studies in Lifelong Learning with a focus on Africentric Research and Policy to start September 2011. This cohort will be offered on campus at Mount Saint Vincent University and will provide courses to enhance the research and policy development knowledge and skills of twenty African Nova Scotian students.
