Research and Teaching Interests

  • Technology Education - children solving problems using appropriate technologies in appropriate ways.
  • Human resource development in the Caribbean, Southern African and Pacific Rim - Can education be rethought to better equip individuals to contribute to community and national development?
  • Global Education - coupled with and directly related to the innovations of Technology Education are potential in curriculum design and development research for improvements in infusion and integration strategies for all schools; focus on children solving authentic and relevant problems.
  • "Culture, Curiosity, and Need for Achievement Motivation: Context and Constraints on Education and Schooling in an International Comparative Framework" (Swaziland, Canada, Trinidad and China)

Dr. Sargent is currently the International Academic Programme Coordinator at MSVU. Since 2000 he has also been working in a Consulting capacity with the Secondary Education Modernization Programme in Trinidad and Tobago.
