Pre-Term Preparation Checklist

New to Distance Learning or the Mount? Has it been awhile since you last took a distance course?  Review our checklist below:

Note:  Distance courses with section numbers 20 & 21, generally air on Eastlink 333 or the A network. Students may view their class, or record it; or they may rent the DVD set, or purchase video files  (downloadable/streaming) for $75 or $50.

Distance courses with section numbers 18,19, 25,26, 28 are delivered virtually using Elluminate Live!, or live chat via Moodle.Generally, these courses have a live 2 hour contact session each week.

 

STEP 1: READ YOUR STUDENT GUIDE.

STEP 2: ORDER YOUR COURSE TEXTBOOKS & MATERIALS ONLINE.

All course materials and textbooks are purchased or rented from the DLCE Online Bookstore.

To access the Online Bookstore:

Sign into WebAdvisor
Go to "My Class Schedule".
Select the link to the DLCE Bookstore.

This link will open a "window" displaying the DLCE Bookstore's Customer Sign-In screen. If you are new to the online bookstore, create an account and follow the prompts to order your materials. If you already have an account, simply sign in.

TIP: When searching for your materials select the term you are registered for. Click on "Refine Results" and select the department in which you are taking classes. To find materials for your class only, click on "Refine Results" again and select your course. This will produce a list of materials just for that course.

You must have a valid Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard) to purchase materials through the Online store. 

Materials are shipped to students within 1 business day of purchase or you may pick up your course materials at the DLCE office. 

Students without a Credit Card please contact or visit the DLCE office in the E. Margaret Fulton Communications Centre, Room 106 during business hours (8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday, Summer business hours (June 1- August 31, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm) to order in person or via email.

MATERIAL RETURN POLICY
Textbooks and course materials may be returned within 10 days of purchase. Textbooks WILL NOT be accepted for return if they appear to be marked, damaged or are removed from plastic covering or if otherwise indicated to be non-refundable. Course software, simulation programs and headsets cannot be returned if opened.

Please ask the DLCE team if you have questions or concerns. If you have purchased textbooks or course materials using your debit card, a manual cheque refund from Financial Services will be issued 2 weeks following the date of your return.
 

STEP 3: CHECK YOUR MSVU.ca EMAIL REGULARLY

All communication will be sent to your MSVU.ca email account.  

STEP 4: ACCESS YOUR MOODLE SITE

Try out the Moodle Demo site via the Moodle Login page. The Username and Password is 'student'.  Information on how to use this course communication site and login to your Moodle course site is listed.

STEP 5: ARRANGE AN OFF-CAMPUS PROCTOR

Who is eligible to write with a proctor?

If you live 100 kilometers or more from MSVU, you are eligible to write your midterm(s) and final examinations at a designated proctor site. If you live less than 100 kilometers from MSVU you MUST come to campus to write your midterms and examinations.

Please complete the Proctor Approval Form online. Your proctor  form must be submitted within two weeks of your first class to ensure your exam will arrive at your proctor site.

Rules and Regulations
Midterms and Final Examinations must be written on the assigned date. Consult your course syllabus/outline and the Registrar's Office Final Examination Schedule for the date and time of your exams

All Proctoring will occur at MSVU approved educational sites only. Under no circumstance may a proctor be a close friend, relative, or family member of the student. Students may be assigned proctors at the University's discretion.
