Volunteer Experiences
Call for VolunteersCitadel High School and the YMCA School Settlement Program are recruiting volunteers to tutor their grade 12 students. Citadel High School has a very diverse population and part of this diversity is the new Canadian population. By the time new Canadian students reach grade 12 they are no longer in ESL classes and are required to take academic grade 12 English and pass the provincial exam in order to receive their high school diploma. This can be a tough transition for students as they are still working in their 2nd or sometimes even 3rd, 4th or 5th language.
To respond to this need an after school tutoring program has been created for ESL students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:30 pm. The goal of the program is to have a drop in tutoring program where a group of tutors will be present to help the ESL population with projects, essays and assignments.
Each tutor will be required to have a Criminal Record Check before participating in the program.
