Tournament Summary

January 8, 2012

The Dyrick McDermott Invitational Women’s Basketball Championship game featured Saint Thomas University and Ste Foy College. The teams exchanged the lead numerous times and at half time STU was leading 35 -34. The Ste Foy team charged back under the leadership of Naomi Lavalle and Ste Foy won the game 71-66.  Leading scorers for Ste Foy were Naomi Lavalle with 14 points and Gabrielle Girand with 11points.  STU’s leading scorer Jillian Lamereau had 14 points and Ashley Bawn with 11.  Players of the Game were Ste Foy's Naomi Lavalle and STU's Ashley Bawn

The Dyrick McDermott Invitational Men’s Basketball Championship game featured Mount Saint Vincent University and Champlain College.  At half time the Champlain Cavaliers were leading 37-33.  In the second half the Caveliers went ahead by 9 but in the last 3 minutes of the game the Mount closed it to 4 points.  But it wasn’t enough.  Champlain won 71-66
with the highscorers of the game:  Champlain: David Belanger, 30 points and Kenny Jean Louis with 12 points.  MSVU's highscorers included Luke Reynolds with 21 points and Kenneth Reardon with 14 points.
Players of the Game were Champlain's Kenny Jean Luois and MSVU's Kenneth Reardon.

Day 2 Tournament Review

January 7, 2012

 

Women's Division

STU completes with a perfect record of 3-0 at the 3rd Annual Dyrick McDermott Invitational.  STU defeated Champlain College this afternoon, Jan. 6 with a score of 77-52  to confirm their place in the Women’s Championship game tomorrow at MSVU at noon.  The 6pm game tonight featured MSVU vs Ste Foy.  A well fought battle but it was Ste Foy's night with a final score 50-34.

Defending 2011 CCAA Champs Ste Foy Women’s basketball will play STU ( who are presently first place in the ACAA and placed 5th at CCAA Nationals last year) STU led by Rookie sensation Kelly Vaas and seniors Kelly DeBow and Ashley Bawn. Ste Foy is young but is led by rookie sensation Sarah Jane Marois and seniors Marie Pier Bastrash and Justine Guay Bilodeau.
 

Men's Division 

Champlain College just defeated Holland College 77-66. Tournament stand out Youssef Ouahrig lit up the game with 37 points. He has been the top scorer in the tournament.

The three-day tourney, named in honour of the longtime Mount women’s coach who died unexpectedly in 2009.

The championship games in both divisions are Sunday afternoon at Mount Saint Vincent.

 


 

Women's Division Day 1 Review

The 3rd Annual Dyrick McDermott Invitational is being held at Mount Saint Vincent University
The women ‘s division is featuring MSVU, STU, Champlain College, Ste Foy, Algonquin College and Trois-Riviere. 
The 8pm games were barn burners with the Mount Mystics coming back from a 14 point deficit at the half to defeat
Trois-Riviere 59-51, Laura Himmelman and Christina Brien were key in the turn around.
 
Champlain College defeated 7th nationally ranked Algonquin College, 62-60.  The Algonquin Thunder were behind 42-28 at the half and fought hard but came up short.
 
After the first day of play the results are:  MSVU 2-0, Champlain 1-1, Ste Foy 1-0, STU  1-0, Trois-Riviere 0-2, Algonquin 0-2

  • MSVU defeated Champlain 55-49

  • MSVU defeated Trois Riviere  59-51
  • Champlain defeated Algonquin 62-60

Men's Division Day 1 Review

The 3rd Annual Dyrick McDermott Invitational is being held at Mount Saint Vincent University.  The men ‘s division is featuring MSVU, UKC, Holland College, Champlain College, Ste Foy and Atlantic AlllStars Nationally ranked3rd in the country,   Mount Mystics  defeated 10 th ranked Ste Fot but lost to 7th ranked Champlain College.
 
After the first day of play, results include: Champlain 2-0, MSVU 1-1, Atlantic All Stars 1-0, Ste Foy 0-1, UKC 0-1, Holland College 0-1

  •  Champlain defeated  MSVU - 70-66
  • MSVU defeated Ste Foy - 79-55
  • Atlantic All Stars defeated Holland College - 64 - 58
