Experiential Learning Demonstration Space

Saturday, October 14, 2017

Does your institution have an inspiring example of how Experiential Learning has been incorporated into coursework in a way that engages students in direct experiences and focused reflection resulting in a deeper understanding of the course content?

If so, please submit a proposal to participate in the AAU Showcase – Experiential Learning Demonstration Space.

The demonstration space will be set up in the Rosaria Terrance during the following times:

  • 8:30 am – 9:30 am
  • 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
  • 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm

We are looking for institutions that can demonstrate examples under three main models as outlined by James Lang in his book Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning.

Course-based Experiential Learning Models:

  1. Activity-Based Learning
Examples: Fieldwork, community-based research, consulting projects
  2.  Service Learning
Example: Students provide a service to the community which enhances their learning by integration
with academic concepts and focused reflection.
  3. Games and Simulations
        Examples: Role-playing/role-immersion games, clinical simulations
