Instructor Biography

Graham Fraser

Graham began training in Aikido in 1992 as a way of counterbalancing the sedentary, stressful, and intensely mental life of a graduate student.  He discovered that aikido was a powerful and transformative physical, emotional, and spiritual practice which has shaped his life.  He trained in the UK while finishing his doctorate in English literature and upon returning to Canada in 1996, trained and taught aikido in Halifax.   Graham has practiced under senior Japanese teachers in the UK and Canada, and is affiliated with Y. Yamada shihan of the New York Aikikai and Collins Smith sensei of the Bermuda Aikikai.  His current rank is yondan (4th degree black belt) and has been certified as a fukushidoin (assistant instructor) in the United States Aikido Federation.  Aikido has also led Graham to other physical practices: judo and submission grappling, ashtanga yoga and racing in triathlons and marathons.
