MSVU Bursary Programs
Mount Saint Vincent University is dedicated to assisting students hard hit by high tuition costs and often insufficient student loans. The University has developed the following programs to help students.
Bursaries, by their very nature, are needs based and are offered first and foremost to students whose expenses are expected to exceed their resources.

ENTRANCE BURSARY PROGRAM
This program is only available to students entering their first undergraduate program and to transfer students in their first undergraduate program. Education and graduate students are not eligible for this particular program.
To be eligible for an MSVU Undergraduate Entrance Bursary, students must meet ALL of the following criteria:
(1) Be accepted to MSVU for the upcoming academic year
(2) Be on student loan (government or private bank)
(3) Be taking a 100% course load during the upcoming academic year (the equivalent of five half-credits in the Fall semester and five half-credits in the Winter semester).
Applications will be included with your acceptance letter from the University. The deadline (which is usually the first or second Friday in June) will be clearly indicated on the application form.
The University offers bursaries of $500, $1000, $1500, $2000 and $2500.
STUDENT WORKS BURSARY PROGRAM
Administrative and academic departments are invited each year to submit position descriptions for jobs to be paid through this program. A committee of Student Affairs chooses 35 positions for the year from those submitted; positions which will provide the best experience for the students.
In recognition of the fact that students’ number one priority is academics, the maximum number of hours per week for these jobs is 12 but they are paid at $10/hour. The jobs start in late September and run until the end of classes … freeing up study time for exams. They commence again the first Monday in January and finish for the year by March 31st in conjunction with the budget year end and, again, in order to free up study time for exams.
Students should contact the Career Planning Centre in mid-September to find out the exact date the jobs begin and to apply.
Because this is a bursary program, students must complete a bursary application which shows their expenses exceed their resources.
Visit the Career Planning Centre Page for job postings.
LONE PARENT PROGRAM
Nova Scotia single-parent students attending MSVU have access to subsidized affordable rental housing thanks to a student housing program created under the Canada/Nova Scotia Affordable Housing agreement.
To qualify, students must meet eligibility criteria including:
Be a full-time university student entering or continuing study toward their FIRST undergraduate degree; Be a lone-custodial parent; Be under household income limit; and Be approved by Nova Scotia Student Assistance for a student loan. This program does not require that students move from their current location. They can simply approach their landlord about participating in the program.
Through this program, students pay a maximum of $390/month towards their rent with Community Services and MSVU sharing the remainder. The program operates for 12 months of the calendar year, not just eight months of the academic year. As long as the student continues to meet the above criteria, the program continues until the student graduates.
If you are interested in participating in this program, please call 420-6000 and ask for an application for the Lone Parent Housing Program. You can also ask to speak to someone about the program if you wish.
