Pre-Departure Checklist

Here's a checklist to ensure that you have everything you need to prepare for your arrival to Mount Saint Vincent University:

  • Continue checking this website for more information about studying at Mount Saint Vincent University
  • Apply to the Mount - msvu.ca/apply
  • Receive acceptance letter from the Mount
  • Pay a $ 275 deposit (all fees listed are in Canadian dollars) to accept offer to study at the Mount.

     or call 1-902-457-6409) to pay this fee.
  • Ensure your passport is current or renew it if it has expired.
  • Apply for a study permit through Citizenship and Immigration Canada 
    (visit
     www.cic.gc.ca for more information).
  • Apply for a temporary residence visa (TRV), if you need one, through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (www.cic.gc.ca).
  • Arrange with Financial Services to have money wired to your student account (optional).

  • Apply for residence and pay the $200 deposit. Contact Lynn Cashen Basso at the Housing Office (msvu.ca or fax 902-445-2201) or secure off-campus housing on your own.
  • Apply for New International Student Orientation online or contact Paul Barry at msvu.ca.
  • Contact the Admissions Office at msvu.ca to get the name and contact information of your academic advisor.
  • Contact Alexis Pascual at Alexis.Pascual@msvu.ca or call 1-902-457-6221 for assistance with academic advising, registering for classes and course selection.
  • If you have not received an email regarding a username and password for our online portal, contact helpdesk@msvu.ca for your username and password. Please provide your name, student number and date of birth.  
  • Register for classes online through Webadvisor on the MyMount portal.
  • Sign-up for Airport Pick-Up once you have booked your flight.
  • Reserve a hotel room if necessary.
  • Buy travel and medical insurance that will be valid until the Mount’s health-insurance plan begins.
  • Travel to the Halifax International Airport.
  • Proceed to the International Welcome Desk or Ground Transportation to meet your driver or ask for an arranged taxi to the Mount. Travel to the Mount’s Assisi Hall, 166 Bedford Highway, in Halifax.
  • Ask the Assisi Hall switchboard operator to notify Paula Barry, Manager of the International Education Centre of your arrival.
  • Settle in, take a deep breath and relax—you have made it to Mount Saint Vincent University!
  • Attend New International Student Orientation activities in September.
