IMPORTANT: Before you travel, please notify the Manager of the International Education Centre of your schedule by emailing msvu.ca and giving your name, country of departure, flight number and arrival date and time in Halifax and whether you’ll need to be picked up at the airport. You can also fill out the online airport pick-up form. If we know you’re coming, we’ll arrange to have a taxi or someone from the University to meet you and take you to the Mount.

We suggest that you give an emergency contact name and number (such as your parents or spouse) to the Manager. If you have a delay or an emergency and need help during your journey, you should notify the Mount’s Security Office at 902-457-6788. Tell the switchboard operator that it’s an emergency and ask him or her to contact the Manager for you. If possible, leave a contact number.

Travel with $200 to $300 in Canadian or American funds. This will help until you can access your international funds. If you have electronic access to your money, there’s an automatic banking machine at the Halifax Airport as soon as you walk through the international-flight doors.

Make sure you have international health insurance to cover you until your University health plan begins.

If your spoken English isn’t strong, write down important words or phrases on a piece of paper. For example, carry cards that say: washroom, banking machine, taxi, Mount Saint Vincent University/Assisi Hall, telephone, the name of the hotel where you’re staying, the address of the place you’re going, help and police.

Be aware of Canadian Customs regulations and baggage weight restrictions.

When you get to the airport, check in at Ground Transportation. If you made arrangements, the driver will be there to take you to the Mount.

If you didn’t arrange for transportation before you left home or you missed a flight, Ground Transportation will be happy to call a taxi to drive you to the Mount. You will need to pay the taxi driver for this; the cost is about $53 Canadian. If you need to make a local phone call in Nova Scotia, pay phones cost $0.25.

The Mount’s address is 166 Bedford Highway, Halifax. Nova Scotia, B3M 2J6

Note: Upon arrival, go directly to Assisi Hall, which is located on Seton Road directly off the Bedford Highway. Assisi Hall is staffed 24 hours a day. You’ll find security and the main switchboard at the main entrance of Assisi Hall (call 902-457-6788).

The ride from the airport takes 20 to 25 minutes and goes along a forested highway.

Please ask the Assisi Hall switchboard staff to inform the Manager that you have arrived or check in personally with Paula Barry as soon as you get to campus.
