Annual Giving

Each year we invite alumnae and friends to participate in a tradition of support. Annual gifts by alumnae and friends represent an essential source of immediately available support for current and future students. Each year, through direct mail and student-led outreach, donors provide much-needed funds to help students every day — in every way. Donors can choose whether their funds are:

Student Opportunities Fund (gift-matching fund): Established in 2014 by alumna Johanne Mckee (BScHEc ’54), this endowed fund provides students with financial support so they may participate in experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom—such as attending conferences, presenting their research, or studying abroad. Johanne believes in the collective ability alumnae have in shaping the student experience, and has committed to match every donation Mount alumnae and friends contribute to this fund up to an additional $50,000 beyond her initial gift!

By choosing to support the Student Opportunity Fund with a generous gift of $20, $50 or $100, for example, Johanne will match your gift dollar for dollar. To donate to the Student Opportunities Fund, please visit: www.msvu.ca/donate (please remember to direct your gift to this initiative).

President’s Fund (undesignated fund): The President’s Fund is an unrestricted, discretionary fund that provides the Mount with the financial flexibility to respond to pressing financial needs, seize on emerging opportunities for the university, and/or support student success.

To donate to the President’s Fund, please visit www.msvu.ca/donate (please remember to direct your gift to this initiative).

Planned Giving

Planned Giving is the process of designing a charitable gift so that the donor realizes philanthropic objectives while maximizing tax and other financial benefits. Through planned giving a commitment is made and the funds are not available to the charity until sometime in the future. Estate planning will ensure your wishes are carried out regardless of your financial situation. At the Mount, alumnae and friends are encouraged to remember us in their estate planning, ensuring students now and well into the future enjoy the best university experience. We recommend that you consult with your financial advisor on the option that is best for you and your family.

Endowment Fund

Significant donations can be designated to specific areas including scholarships, bursaries or library collections. These mutually agreed funds are invested in perpetuity. An Endowment Fund can be established as a named gift to honour or recognize an individual, association or corporation.

Gifts in-Kind

A gift in kind of real property is another type of donation you can make to support the Mount. Gifts such as equipment, services, art or securities are examples of gifts-in-kind. A tax receipt can be issued for qualifying in-kind donations and is based on the fair market appraised value of the gift.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Many companies are encouraging their employees to contribute to charities by offering a 'Matching Gift' program. Please consult our list or check with your Human Resources Department to see if your employer is a member of this program.

US & International Donors

Gifts by residents of the United States are tax deductible. If you are an American citizen and wish to make a donation to the Mount, your gift will be entitled to a charitable deduction. Mount Saint Vincent University is a recognized 501(c)(3) organization in the United States.

Gifts in Memory / In Honour

Celebrate a friend of the Mount's life or legacy, or special occasion by paying tribute to them by directing funds to the University or to a specific department or enhancement fund. Notice of your gift will be sent to the honouree or their family members.
