The Honourable Stephen McNeil, Premier of Nova Scotia, and Mount Saint Vincent University President, Dr. Ramona Lumpkin, CM, today (September 10th) joined with counterparts at Jinshan College of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China to celebrate the launch of a new joint tourism degree.

Small group at Jinshan College-resizedThe Mount’s new Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management degree in cooperation with Jinshan College is the first of its kind among Canadian university tourism programs. Under the new program, students from Jinshan College will spend three years studying in China before coming to the Mount for their fourth year of study as well as cooperative industry placements.

This program will provide students a unique perspective on the global tourism industry, as well as in depth knowledge of the Nova Scotian and Canadian industries, helping to further develop tourist movements from China to Canada.

The first class of 31 students will start the program at Jinshan College on September 17. At the same time, two faculty from the College are spending the fall semester at the Mount in Halifax. Hui Zhang and Rongxia Zhang arrived in Nova Scotia in late August. They will co-teach two courses in the new program at Jinshan College this winter (introductory courses in Business Administration and Tourism & Hospitality Management). In preparation, they will work with the Mount faculty teaching these same courses in Halifax this fall. Mount professors will travel to China this winter to teach alongside their Jinshan College counterparts.

The Mount looks forward to welcoming the first class of Jinshan College students to Halifax under this new program in 2019.
