The cafés will focus on expressions of heart and spirit as found in the contemporary, as well as traditional, arts of spoken-word, song and/or music, along with displays of artwork and simple, but delicious, refreshments common to the culture presenting.
The films will challenge us with true stories of racism, sexism, politically, culturally and religiously motivated violence, and the strength and spirit to face aggression and ignorance, as well as the startling notion of forgiveness.
The cafés and the film showings will have the general format of presentation, discussion and socializing. Facilitators, well acquainted with the art form, culture or film will assist discussion.
The celebrations will be exactly that: of heart, spirit, community and life itself.
This series has been planned in partnership with the participating spiritual and cultural communities, as well as a supportive network of partners. It will lead into an international conference and a “Compassionate Cities Campaign”, all with the goal of fostering a more welcoming, compassionate and vibrant community and world.
