The Fear

 Hey you! Yeah, you!

Have you ever had an amazing idea that could be a game changer for your business? I bet you have. When the thought crosses your mind, you get super excited. You may have even started to implement the idea and test it out a bit. So far your customers love it. You decide you are going to take this idea to the next level.

But…you don’t. This idea has been sitting in the corner for the past 6 months, a year, or even longer. You want to pursue the idea. You just haven’t yet. Unfortunately this is an issue we run into fairly often. An entrepreneur has a great product prototype, but hasn’t taken action to bring it to market and attract customers.

There is no follow-through. Which brings to mind one of my favourite quotes: the dream is free, the hustle is sold separately.

Contrary to what some might believe, creating an awesome product (or service) is the easy part. The hard part is putting yourself out there. Somewhere between the idea phase and the selling phase, you get stuck. You procrastinate. You convince yourself that you are too busy, or that your product isn’t ready yet, but it’s really something else: FEAR!

Whether you realize it or not, you’re afraid that you will fail. That no one will buy your product. I understand, this can be extremely scary. I really do. I’ve fallen victim to this myself. For the past few months I’ve wanted to develop training that could be delivered online. Moving to online delivery models would change the way we do business and could have a big impact on my business. Guess what- I still don’t have a course developed. I have an outline for a course but I haven’t taken it any further. Partly because I want to shift the focus of the course, partly because I’ve been “busy” working on other things, but partly because I am procrastinating out of fear.

Look, I can’t guarantee that you will be successful with your idea. But, I can guarantee this: People, especially women, lack confidence, and that can be self-sabotaging. I also know that the regret of not doing something and wondering what might have been is far worse than the regret of doing something that doesn’t go exactly as you had hoped. Your family and friends will not stop loving you if your idea doesn’t become a massive success. Go for it!

Got a game changing idea? I’d love to hear about it. Drop me an e-mail and we’ll set up a time for a free telephone/Skype/Google Hangouts coaching session. As for me, I think it’s time I take my own advice.

By the time this post goes live I will have a clear idea of what my course is, and a plan developed to make it a reality!
