Established in 1992, the Centre for Women in Business at Mount
Saint Vincent University assists entrepreneurs by providing them
with the support, resources, training and information they need to
start or grow their businesses. Women entrepreneurs are growing in
number, which is why the Centre continues to grow.
Our Story
It all began in the late 1980's when Mount Saint Vincent
University's Department of Business Administration conducted
secondary research that found women did indeed have specific
problems in getting a business started. Those needs were
found in the areas of start-up, growth and expansion. Based
on those research findings, it was determined that an
organization for women in business would help address the
many needs of women entrepreneurs. The Mount sought and
received funding from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities
Agency (ACOA) and the Centre for Women in Business opened its
doors in June 1992.
Originally the Centre was established to supply information
and referral, facilitate networking, promote women in
business, provide access to training and manage research
activities. Services now
include one-to-one business advisory services, business projects involving
Mount students working with Centre clients, networking
events, workshops, training programs, mentoring and public
presentations.
The Centre
is continually developing new programs to uphold the mission
of the Mount, which is dedicated to the education of women.
In doing this, the Centre offers many programs which anyone
interested in starting or growing their own business can take part in.
It takes more than just a good idea to become a successful
entrepreneur. It takes knowledge and support, that is where
we can help.
